About
I am an accredited dog trainer with the Animal Behaviour and Training Council (ABTC) who has worked with hundreds of dogs and their owners over many years in the industry. I have worked for the UK's largest dog welfare and rescue organisation since 2016 and so have vast experience with both rescue dogs and a range of behaviour issues. Hammond's Hounds was born with the aim of helping more dogs and owners, because dogs have taught me so much over the years, and I want to pass that on to you to help your relationship with your dog thrive.
The dog training industry is only self-regulated, meaning there is nothing stopping anyone setting up online and saying they are a dog trainer. However, there are several organisations which trainers can become a member of and accredited by. These organisations can differ between their ethics and their code of practices (some organisations will not condone the use of punishment-based training techniques, for example). I strongly encourage all people considering taking on a dog trainer to look to see what organisations they are a member of, research those organisations, and get a feel of what they are about and what they stand for. Being an accredited trainer with the Animal Behaviour and Training Council (ABTC) means I pledge to use science-led, compassionate, and non-punitive training methods. Therefore my work will NOT include any reference to outdated and dangerous pack leadership/alpha models, dominance theory, or aversive tools such as pet corrector sprays or prong collars.
